Advocacy

We know that it can be frustrating when people are not listened to and it is even harder when you have a learning disability. At Bury People First we provide two types of advocacy.

One to One Advocacy

This is where you get support from another person to help you express your views and wishes, and help you stand up for your rights.

Someone who helps you to do this is called an advocate.

An advocate is there to support your choices.

They will listen to you, explore your options and rights, provide you with information to help you make informed choices and support you in meetings.

Group Advocacy

There are times when a group of people want to work together to speak up about particular issues that interests or concerns them.

They will have someone who is independent to help them do this. This is called group advocacy.

At Bury People First we run monthly group advocacy sessions where people can talk about current issues that affect them in Bury and look at ways they can make positive changes.
